Redditch Men’s 2s vs Kingswinford 2s

Redditch 2nds continued their recent run of form in a confident performance against Kingswinford 2nds, beating them 5-0. The game was filled with brilliant individual performances, great team play going forward and a few unfamiliar situations that made the game unique. Goals came through a double from Ethan Smith, and further goals from Wayne Beard, Ben Haresign and Harrison Young.

Final score: Redditch 5-0 Kingswinford

Sutton Coldfield 7s vs Redditch Men’s 3s

Redditch Men’s 3s travelled away for a top of the table clash at Sutton Coldfield. Both sides started well, playing some excellent attacking hockey but strong defending meant that neither could break the deadlock by half time. The second half started brightly with increased pressure on the Sutton Coldfield goal but Redditch were still unable to squeeze the ball home. A quick attack from Sutton Coldfield caught Redditch off guard and they were able to convert from close range.

Despite digging deep, Redditch were unable to equalise and a very evenly matched game ended with Redditch’s first loss of the season.

Final score: Sutton Coldfield 1-0 Redditch

University of Birmingham Women’s 5s vs Redditch Women’s 1s

Women’s 1s had an unfortunate away game losing 5-0 to a well drilled and fit University of Birmingham 5th team. The first half saw some great saves from goal keeper Paige, who is coming back to the game after a few years away and some fantastic attacking and driving forward from Redditch midfield, which resulted in short corners being won and chances created but the team just couldn’t find the back of the net.

The second half was a real battle for Redditch with some great positioning, communication and passing shown. Unfortunately, a player was injured and with no subs it meant Redditch were down to ten players. After a high ball shot on goal from the opposition and some disagreement with the umpire, it saw two Redditch players being sin binned and Redditch were down to eight players for a short while. Despite this no goals were scored in this period of time and back with ten players the battle continued but ended with a loss for Redditch.

The work ethic, play and comradery shown by Redditch is not reflected in the score, but they left determined to regroup and refocus for next week to continue to show the league they are a strong and resilient team.

Final score: University of Birmingham 5-0 Redditch

Redditch Women’s 2s vs Kings Heath 2s

Women’s 2’s went into their home game in a strong position – 2nd in the league on goal difference and having not dropped a point, so facing bottom of the league Kings Heath was a mouth-watering prospect with the opportunity to garner more goals and potentially improve their position. They settled into the game quickly and dominated, with the first goal coming from Captain Louise Jennings in the first ten minutes. The side’s superior pace and ability to move the ball quickly meant a further two goals were scored by Elsie Simpson and Becki Clarke before half time.

In the 2nd half Kings Heath started to put things together at little better and managed to halt Redditch in their tracks for twenty minutes, before two further goals were scored by Ava Goodman and Frankie Griffiths in the final ten minutes of the game making the final score a 5-0 win to Redditch. Results went their way too as top side Old Halesonians lost their league game to Stourport, meaning the Redditch 2s went top of the league!

Final score: Redditch 5-0 Kings Heath

Elsewhere, Redditch Men’s 1s secured a well needed win at Olton and unfortunately our Men’s 4’s Development team game was cancelled due to the opposition being unable to field a team.
