Redditch’s third team secure promotion

REDDITCH Hockey Club’s men’s third team secured promotion on the last day of the season with a memorable 3-2 win against league rivals Stourport.

The youthful side capped off a fine season with victory against Stourport 6ths as Redditch made the most of a two-goal lead at half time to close out the game in the second period.

And Redditch took the lead on 10 minutes when Elliot Ford brilliantly controlled the ball and fired a low and hard strike into the bottom corner after Miller Glen forced the Stourport defence into a mistake.

Redditch then hit Stourport on the counter attack as Miller broke up the play and dashed forward to find Ford who threaded a pass through to Marshall Glen who showed excellent control to beat three defenders and slot home.

And Redditch all but sealed the win in the second half when Ford set up Miller from a well-worked penalty corner as the latter produced a calm finish.

However, Stourport rallied late on and struck back through a penalty corner of their own before a counter attack goal set up a nervy final few minutes as Redditch held on to clinch promotion.
