Redditch’s second teams enjoy fine weekend

REDDITCH Hockey Club enjoyed a fine week with wins for both of their men’s and women’s second teams and the Badgers squad.

The men’s second team thrashed Barford Tigers 4ths 8-2 despite trailing to a first-minute goal as Harrison Young scored a hat-trick whilst Richard Sellors and Pete Dawson grabbed two apiece with Josh Checkley also on the scoresheet.

And the women’s second team were also successful as they beat Bournville 2nds 3-2.

Captain Louise Jennings opened the scoring with a cool finish from a penalty corner which was well-taken by Becki Clarke.

And Alice Wright managed to slot in a reverse shot to double Redditch’s lead before Elsie Simpson swept home with a clever finish to put them firmly in command.

Bournville responded with two goals in the second half as Redditch bravely defended a late penalty corner in the dying stages to close out the win.

Redditch Badgers were also victorious as they thrashed Worcester Potters 6-1 with Theo Cook netting a sensational five-minute hat-trick.

Despite Worcester pulling a goal back, Ethan Cook stuck the backboard with an excellent shot from just inside the shooting circle before Harry Brookes netted twice more to seal the win.

Elsewhere, the men’s first team were beaten 3-0 by Bloxwich whilst the men’s third team lost by the same scoreline to Barford Tigers 5ths.

Lastly, Redditch women’s first team secured a dominant 5-0 win against Bournville women’s 1sts.
