Redditch Hockey Club holds bumper food collection to feed the town’s hungry

REDDITCH Hockey Club has held a bumper food collection which will help feed the town’s hungry.

Head junior coach at the club and organiser of the food drive, Becki Clarke, was amazed when she heard Batchley Support Group (BSG) had delivered 10,000 food packages to residents this year alone.

Wanting to get involved, she said: “I feel as a club we have an important role to play in the local community.

“Not only as a provider of sport but to support the wellbeing of the wider community as a whole.

“We wanted to do something more to help.”

Club members donated food by the bucket load which left Becki and BSG feeling overwhelmed by people’s generosity.

Mark Barron, community development manager at BSG, said the food drive has helped with filling their community pantry.

“Due to the pandemic we have seen an increased demand for our services,” he said.

“With the support of the community we have been able to maintain our vital service and respond positively to the increased demand.

“We would like to thank Becki and Redditch Hockey Club for their kind donations, this will help us to ensure that vulnerable people are supported and fed this winter.”
