REDDITCH Hockey Club’s respective teams endured another week of mixed results.

Elsewhere, the women’s first team lost to Olton and West Warwickshire whilst the second team were held to a draw against Harborne.

RESULTS

Redditch men’s 2nds 1-5 West Bromwich 2nds

A youthful second team were beaten by West Bromwich as several experienced players were missing all over the pitch.

Despite the final scoreline, Redditch pinned the visitors back for the final 20 minutes and troubled the scoreboard when athan Wedgbury, Tim Gibbs and Riley Oxenbury worked the ball down the right and to the baseline where Josh Checkley applied a simple finish following a great run and pass from Oxenbury.

The game provided Redditch’s young stars with some valuable experience and enjoyed promising moments with the second team next in action away at Bournville 3rds.

Stratford 6ths (Development) 1-5 Redditch 3rds

The men’s third team claimed an impressive win on the road at Stratford and made a rapid start as Hadley Kilkenny opened the scoring inside 45 seconds.

A youthful Redditch side were dominant throughout as Miller and Marshall Glen combined which ended with Miller finding the net after he beat three Stratford defenders.

And 13-year-old debutant Theo Cook was in the thick of the action with some excellent build-up play and passing before Kilkenny scored his second goal of the game.

Redditch added a fourth goal before half time when Ben McFarland swept the ball home from close range.

And despite an enforced reshuffle at half time, Redditch scored their fifth as Cook grabbed his first goal for the third team after Stratford had reduced the deficit with a strike on the counter attack.

Redditch 4ths (Development) 1-1 Old Silhillians 5ths

It was a case of defences on top in an evenly-matched game between Redditch’s fourth team and Old Silhillians 5ths with chances at a premium.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the closing stages with a well-worked goal from a short corner.

However, Redditch pushed for an equaliser as Russ Baldwin was denied by a defender laying on the goalline following a goalmouth scramble.

And the resulting penalty flick was converted by Theo Cook, his first in a senior game, as Reddicth rescued a deserved point.

Redditch women’s 2nds 1-1 Harborne 5ths

Redditch women’s second team were held by Harborne 5ths as the home side took a narrow one-goal lead into the break courtesy of Tula Williams’s confident strike after she drove into the D.

Both teams spurned chances in the second half as Redditch’s debutant goalkeeper Kerry Simons made a series of fine saves to keep her side in front.

However, Harborne’s persistence eventually paid off with an equaliser as Redditch were unable to find a winner following a late resurgence.

Elsewhere, Redditch men’s first team secured a big 5-0 win at Market Drayton whilst the women’s first team lost 3-1 against Olton and West Warwickshire 3rds.
