Redditch Mens Seconds cruised to a 5-1 win at home to Bridgnorth despite losing several members of their squad after first team call-ups.
With the first team down on players, Pete Dawson, Dan Jakeman, Dave Pilkington and captain Adrian Young were all called up, but the remaining players showed they can still take the fight to other teams in their promotion battle
Things started well enough, with Alan Povey putting the Kingfishers ahead in the seventh minute after good work from Lee Beeden.
Redditch kept up the pressure, and Dave Baker hit home five minutes later following a short corner to extend the lead to two goals.
James Makin, called up from the thirds to cover the absences was showing potential, and created a decent opportunity for Beeden in the 18th minute, only for Beeden’s shot to be saved by the visiting goalkeeper.
Beeden made amends from a short corner four minutes later though, coolly shooting home to put Redditch three ahead.
The visitors had a short spell of pressure before half time, and Redditch keeper Colin Burch, standing in for Young, did well to keep out a shot seconds before the break.
Brian Melliard was in the thick of the action, and a goal would have been a just reward, but he shot wide from close range two minutes after the break.
But stand in captain Tim Gibbs ensured the game was as good as won with a goal in the 45th minute.
Dean Farmer rubbed salt into Bridgnorths wounds with a confident goal two minutes later, despite acrobatically flying over the goalkeeper in the process.
Bridgnorth grabbed a consolation in the 50th minute, but Redditch were barely under threat and were able to see out the remaining time with ease to ensure they remained top of the MRHA West Midlands 1 Second Team League.
Redditch Mens Thirds totally dominated their game at home to Kingswinford; with a comfortable 10-0 win in which it seemed the visitors were acting as Redditch’s twelfth man.
The fact that goalkeeper Jake Smith only had to touch the ball once throughout the whole game showed the ease in which Redditch were victorious, indeed the visitors very rarely got past the half way line.
Matt Davies opened the scoring, before John Manison got his first of three and Lawney Chiu.
Three goals up at half time would normally be cause for celebration, but in truth the margin should have been larger, and the Reds sharpened up after half time.
Manison scored twice more to complete his hat trick, Alex Ward scored three times to get a hat trick of his own, with Ben Hyde and Tom Newton each getting their names onto the score sheet.
