Probably the best hockey club in Redditch

Redditch Ladies Firsts grabbed another comfortable win on Saturday, beating Droitwich 3-0, but the winning margin could have been larger.

As early as the second minute, Leah Healey and Jasmine Leigh combined well to unleash Lindsay Morris who shot wide.

A minute later, Angie Taylor had a gilt-edged chance, but somehow managed to hit the crossbar instead.

Kirsty Stafford then embarked on a good run in the tenth minute, but her shot was unsuccessful, with sister Anna also looking threatening with some strong runs troubling the Droitwich defence.

Sara Horton then turned a Droitwich attack into a Redditch offensive after tacking well in midfield.

Emma Preston was also busy, seeing a shot saved in the 18th minute, and was unlucky not to score five minutes later, just unable to connect properly with the ball when in front of goal.

The home side finally grabbed the opener two minutes later when Angie Taylor tapped in Leigh’s goal bound shot.

The lead was doubled three minutes after half time, Olivia Laxton scoring at the post following a short corner

Leigh then saw an effort go narrowly wide five minutes later, and also had a goal disallowed.

But Droitwich weren’t taking it all lying down, and Redditch twice had Danni Nevitt to thank with some decent tackles and clearances deep in the Redditch D.

Another Droitwich attack in the 58th minute saw goalkeeper Rachael Turner called into action, saving a shot well.

But with three minutes remaining, Anna Stafford, who had been limping heavily after an earlier knock went on a mazy run through the Droitwich defence before shooting past the keeper to put Redditch 3-0 up.

It should have been four at the death, Anna Stafford playing on Taylor, only to see the shot go agonisingly over the bar.
