Redditch Hockey Club’s Second teams both secured important wins at the weekend, with the Mens Seconds going two points clear at the top of the MRHA Second Team West Midlands Division 1 after a 3-1 win at Droitwich.
Against a Droitwich side that are difficult to beat at home, Redditch went to the game in determined mood and immediately had the upper hand.
Alan Povey gave the Reds an early lead with a good strike from the edge of the D.
After harshly going down to nine men after two players were yellow carded, the Kingfishers regrouped, defending well as a unit.
But they were unlucky to concede from a short corner shortly before half time.
Once the Reds returned to full strength in the second half, the push continued and Povey grabbed his second of the game before Tim Gibbs wrapped up proceedings 10 minutes from the end.
Meanwhile the Ladies Seconds had an impressive 4-0 win at Droitwich to continue their solid start to life in the Worcestershire LHL Division 3.
Sisters Kirsty and Phil Williams each grabbed a goal, while Karen Buckthorpe and Kate Knightingale each added their names to the scorelist in a dominant display.
