Redditch Hockey Club secured their second 5-1 win in seven days after a dominant performance at Evesham Arrows on Wednesday evening.

The Kingfishers were two goals up inside the first four minutes with skipper Chris Thomas getting the ball rolling with a simple shot after a goalmouth scramble following a short corner.

Moments later, good build up play from Steve Cook and Andy Thomas unleashed Richard Sellors who fired in his first goal of the evening.

And Redditch were almost three goals to the good only two minutes later, Dave Smith thinking he had scored only for the umpire to judge Sellors’ stick to be too high and disallow the goal.

But Anthony Brookes was on hand to fire Redditch into a 3-0 lead, scoring the goal of the game in the 17th minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the D.

The fact Evesham did not have a meaningful attempt on goal until the 23rd minute demonstrated the superiority Redditch had been enjoying, and despite seeing very little of the ball goalkeeper Scott Paul was able to make a quality save to deny the Evesham attacker.

Redditch weren’t startled, and again tested the Evesham keeper this time through Jason Ellis-Woodley, who saw his shot palmed away.

The second half was a more subdued affair with Redditch looking to hold onto their advantage.

The half sprung to life in the last twelve minutes though, with the ball in the net three times.

Steve Dawes put Redditch 4-0 up after some good build up play, and three minutes later Richard Sellors grabbed his second of the night after deflecting in Smith’s seemingly goal bound shot.

But Evesham were to get a consolation after the unfortunate Paul Markham deflected an Evesham cross past Scott Paul into his own net.

Sellors came within millimetres of clinching a hat trick, but saw his effort hit the post with seconds remaining on the clock.

The Kingfishers now have a week off before meeting Stourport at Bromsgrove Road on the 15th July.
